January 31, 2007 - Newport Computer Services and Uniwaste Services Corporation announced today that they had signed an Agreement to offer a full service IT Asset recovery and recycling solution. This concludes a discussion, between the two companies, over the past two years to research and find a solution that best serves customers in a marketplace with changing government regulations. If you are planning to replace your computers, servers, mobile devices and other IT assets, the Alliance’s would bring to you, the benefits of safe recycling and disposal along with recovery of value from the sale of parts and product,
Uniwaste has focused on building a significant business, serving local and state governments, retailers and educational institutions in the Northeast in the past six years. Bob Nicholson, founder of Uniwaste, commented “We have often come across situations where our customers have been looking for a single vendor to combine the recycling and disposal service with value recovery for their electronic waste. The customers were looking for a partner to take care of the liability of correct disposal while being able to recover value where possible. We began to give this serious thought as we got to know Newport better. We have been their vendor for recycling and disposal service for the past 3 years”.
Newport, on the other hand, has developed a business around test, audit, data wipe and parts harvesting and recovering value for parts and products in the secondary market over the past 14 years. Brad Wiggin, co-founder of Newport who runs Sales and Marketing, commented “The marketplace is seeing a surge in demand for Asset Recovery and Recycling services for desktops, laptops and other technology hardware.
We have seen estimates suggesting a 6-fold growth in demand over the next 5 years as customers begin to replace and bring in more powerful processing into their portfolio. It is our belief that, as this surge is realized, there would be a need for specialized vendors with the full service offer”.
Shiva Nanda, co-founder and President of Newport said, “It is increasingly clear to us that our market is at a turning point. You have the manifold surge in demand, coupled with more stringent regulations for an ecofriendly process being served by a fragmented vendor network offering partial solutions. This places our customers, at significant risk, from a compliance standpoint. Likewise it places a much bigger responsibility on us, to have a delivery model that combines recovery of value in a very safe manner without handoffs. We are excited to work with Bob and Uniwaste on this Alliance. This Alliance is a first of its kind, in the IT Asset Recovery Marketplace, and a product of our continuing effort to be forward looking and respond pro-actively”
The Newport Uniwaste Alliance proposes to make significant investments during calendar year 2007, to expand and serve the various segments of the Northeast market. Some of the investments proposed include fourfold expansion of site capacity, implementing software that allows us to better understand price movements over time, and having a specialized sales force that will develop customized solutions. A compelling feature of the Alliance is it's internal logistics service, in the Northeast. This service greatly simplifies transportation and reduces the cost to the customer while providing a true end-to-end solution.
