June 22, 2008 - The environment makes headlines in all the papers these days and many companies are making great strides to do their bit. But have these companies actually got a workable policy to boost thier environmental credentials?
Environmental Policy (http://www.environmentalpolicy.org.uk) is a new website that does what it says on the tin - this free service shows what a company should have in their environmental policy and how to create one that they can communicate to their employees, customers and suppliers.
Peter Hale, owner of Small Business Pro explains:
"I conducted a survey recently and most companies did not have a policy written although many had a positive attitude towards reducing their environmental impact but they just didn't have it written down"
"Many suppliers now request a copy of your environmental policy as they will only deal with like-minded businesses and although companies wish to cut waste and purchase from environmentally concious businesses, they want to see that commitment in a written document"
The site contains information on what businesses need to think about when making such a commitment as well as free environmental policy statements that anyone can access and adapt for their own organisation.
Peter concludes: "Writing your policy doesn't need to be time consuming as it should be easily understood and concise on one side of A4. As many companies are already making changes in their processes to care more about their environmental impact, it's relatively easy to write something up"
