Symptoms of a stroke include sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body, confusion, trouble speaking, or seeing, or a sudden severe headache. If someone has one or more of these signs, they should get help by calling 911 immediately, warned Stockman.

"The treatment goal is to keep blood pressure below 140/90 and lower for people with other conditions, such as diabetes and kidney disease," said Stockman.
