May 12, 2006 - The Emerald Engineering web portal draws on Emerald’s international focus to ensure global perspectives on all aspects of engineering. It aims to appeal both to practising engineers and academics with quality, peer-reviewed content drawn from its 15 engineering and materials science journals (14 of which are indexed in ISI, testament to their quality and in-depth coverage of their subject area), complemented by material from Emerald’s technology and management titles. Content is split into four major disciplines to ease navigation: advanced automation; computational mathematics; electronics manufacture and packaging; and materials science.
Lyn Thorley, Web Portal Editor says, “We have created the site in consultation with some of our key engineering stakeholders including managers, directors and CEOs of engineering companies and consultancies, engineering professionals from the public and private sector, engineering researchers, students and consultants. We are meeting those stakeholder needs through features such as: viewpoints from key industry figures, case studies and interviews; conference diaries; information on recent/forthcoming articles; and a ‘writing for Emerald’ section which provides author guidelines”.
Clive Loughlin, Editor of Industrial Robot, says, “Emerald has always had an excellent portfolio of engineering titles that has grown steadily over the last 20 years as new technologies have come to the fore. It is very good news that these titles have been given their own web portal as this will enable and empower the engineering community to quickly and easily keep up to date with the latest research and technological developments and to learn from the wide variety of industrial case studies that are included”.
The portal will be officially launched at the 2006 ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education) 113th Annual Conference and Exposition at the Hyatt Regency Chicago-Riverside Center, Chicago, Illinois, USA on 18-21 June: stand 120. Further celebrations will also be held at the FIE 2006 – 36th Annual Frontiers in Education Conference, Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, San Diego, California, USA, on 28-31 October; and EIPC Summer Conference, Venice, June 8 - 9, 2006.
The portal is also AAA accessibility-compliant under the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0, ensuring it is as easy as possible to read and navigate for those with disabilities.
