May 08, 2009 - The show, called ‘Beautiful Life’, goes behind the scenes of the modelling world, focusing on a group of young models living together in New York as they chase their dreams of a brilliant modelling career.
Beautiful Life also stars a woman who knows more than most about working as a model, supermodel Elle Macpherson. Macpherson, who has appeared in a number of TV shows and films since winding down her own modelling career, will play Claudia, boss of a major New York modelling agency and a former 1980s supermodel.
For her part, Barton plays the slightly bitchy Sonia, a successful model who keeps the competition at bay but also mentors younger talent who are just beginning their modelling careers. Ashton Kutcher, Sara Paxton, Ben Hollingsworth, Ashley Madekwe and Nico Tortorella have also signed up to appear in the series.
While the show will be a fictionalised account of the cutthroat world of modelling, Managing Director of UK modelling agency Models Direct Damian O’Connor believes it will provide inspiration for the many young people who are interested in becoming model.
“I think this show will pick up on the popularity of shows like America’s Top Model,” says O’Connor. “Obviously there’s a lot of drama and acting up on these shows, but they still offer some really useful insights into the world of fashion modelling.”
There’s much more to modelling than the high fashion work, says O’Connor. “Few people realise how much other modelling work there is out there, for people of all ages, shapes and sizes,” he says. “We’ve seen many clients move away from the ‘supermodel’ look, so there are opportunities for anyone who wants to become a model.”
