September 22, 2009 - In December 2009, Andy Duff (50) will be standing down after six years as CEO of RWE npower in the UK. He will take up a new position in an advisory capacity as non-Executive Chairman of RWE npower from 1 January 2010. He will be succeeded as CEO from 1 January 2010 by Volker Beckers (45), who has been Chief Financial Officer of RWE npower since 2003.
Dr Jürgen Großmann, CEO of RWE AG said, “Andy Duff has provided RWE npower with outstanding leadership. He has been instrumental in transforming the company’s generation portfolio and putting in place the building blocks to enable RWE npower to become a leading energy and gas provider in the UK. He has our thanks and gratitude for these achievements.” Großmann sees Volker Beckers as an excellent successor to Andy Duff, remarking that, “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the energy sector as well as considerable experience of the highly competitive UK energy markets.“
As of 1 January 2010, Dr Frank Weigand (42) will become new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of RWE npower. He has been Head of Group Controlling at RWE AG since 2007.
RWE npower is continuing to develop rapidly. One of the key current projects is the construction of two large gas fired power stations in the UK with a capacity of 2,000 MW and 1,650 MW. With its 13,000 employees and a turnover of 6.9 billion GBP, RWE npower supplies 4.2 million customers with electricity and 2.7 million with gas.
