Amongst the select companies in the store, Bell & Ross stood out over the past four years as a gigantic success story. On May Seventh, Matt Baily and Bell & Ross produced Canada’s first and only BR 01 Tourbillon. This rare watch will sell to a collector for CAD $131,000.
Bell & Ross designs and builds luxury watches fit for professionals. Last year the BR01 Tourbillon was created to showcase their watch making prowess alongside the BR Instrument design, which has contributed greatly to the brand’s popularity. A Tourbillon, which is the French word for whirlwind, is an extremely complicated piece of mechanics that was invented by legendary watch maker Abraham-Louis Breguet in1801. The technical difficulty of producing this device makes it rare and expensive, but the demand for this luxurious item is higher then ever.
Matt Baily is the only store that carries a BR 01 Tourbillon in Canada. Although its price does not make it accessible to most watch enthusiasts, there are still plenty of collectors that long for it. Only sixty will be produced. All sixty were pre-sold instantly to retailers when the watch was released in April of 2007. About a quarter of these have already been sold and delivered to clients worldwide regardless of the tremendous price tag.
Although the Canadian market for luxury watches is much smaller then many other locations in the world, Matt Baily is confident that the eventual owner of the Tourbillon will be a Canadian.
