  • (1888PressRelease) October 02, 2015 - The new visa, the METV, will become available from November 13 and will cost Bt5,000. This is compared to Bt1,000 for a single-entry 60 day visa which can be extended in-country for up to 30 days for an additional fee.

A current tourist visa for Thailand allows for one to three entries, whereas the new METV will allow unlimited border crossings during the validity period. But, to limit foreigners from essentially living in the kingdom on a tourist visa, each entry on the METV will be limited to 60 days.

Thailand's foreign ministry in September informed all embassies, consulate-generals and honorary consuls worldwide they should begin preparing for the METV, for which regulations were approved by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in August and published in the Royal Gazette on Sept 14.

Those seeking more information about a visa to Thailand can contact such offices, while those already in Thailand can contact an immigration office there. Another option is to visit a Thai or international law firm in Thailand which can offer valuable and well-founded advice on the Thai visa service process.

These firms offer a range of Thai law, legal, accounting, immigration, auditing services and other general services. Some of them specialize in helping foreigners in obtaining a Thai visa and/or Thailand work permit, and for those employed in Thailand, in tax consulting and filing of personal income tax and starting a business in Thailand.

Foreigners working in the kingdom will often use a Thai or international law firm in Thailand to assist them in filing their personal income tax return each year, which foreigners working in Thailand are required to do the same as their Thai colleagues.

Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said that officials hoped the new six month multiple-entry tourist visa would promote Thailand as a destination for weekend vacations and that business people will visit Thailand more often.

Thailand has set a target of 28.8 million tourists in 2015. In mid September the kingdom welcomed its 21 millionth visitor, as officials claimed this was a strong indicator arrivals were on track to reach the target by the end of the year.

The lucky 21 millionth visitor was presented with two economy class return tickets from Thai Airways International from his airport of origin (Perth) to Thailand valid for one year, and a voucher for five nights top-end accommodation, along with other gifts.

The 'Millionth Visitor' program organized to support the Tourism Authority of Thailand's 'Discover Thainess' campaign has identified winners since July for every additional million tourists.

The 'Discover Thainess' tourism marketing campaign for 2015 is aimed at promoting Thailand's cultural treasures, charming traditions and the Thai way of life. It highlights the diversity of destinations in the kingdom, the flavours of Thai cuisine, the unique culture and traditions, and the friendly character of the Thai people.

The campaign recommends to tourists, as places to visit, 12 provinces recognized as 'hidden gems'.

These are emerging provincial destinations renowned for their history, culture and lifestyle and they are Lampang, Phetchabun, Nan, Buri Ram, Loei, Samut Songkhram, Ratchaburi, Trat, Chanthaburi, Trang, Chumphon, and Nakhon Si Thammarat.
