January 14, 2009 - Although the doors to Game Shape opened in 2002, Michelle Wolpov, owner, has recently added many unique staff members and services. Game Shape staff members have been featured in the media, won awards, battled cancer, one has lost 123 pounds, one has written books, many continue to be educated, a few have coached sports, one does chair exercises, another does swing exercises, and all enjoy the helping people in Game Shape. The quality and uniqueness of the individuals now working as a team at Game Shape is remarkable. This group of individuals has had so many different life experiences, good and bad, that the members will be greeted with open arms and cared for with compassion. Physical therapists, fitness trainers, a massage therapist, a nutritionist, and many administrative staff make up the Game Shape team. Game Shape even has an orthotist, someone who specializes in planning, making, and fitting orthopedic braces.
Although this staff has a variety of personalities and experiences, they work in harmony to offer the clients and patients the best possible experience. One physical therapy patient, David F, stated that he has, "been free of chronic low back pain for 3 months after living with it for over 15 years” And fitness client, Bob R., stated that he was skeptical at first, but in two weeks he lost 8 pounds and affirmed, “From now on when Lori talks, I'll listen."
Game Shape not only services athletes. There are hundreds of senior citizens that have enjoyed the services at Game Shape. From physical therapy to fitness and massage, this group is serviced well. Joanne Maidment and Shari Josephson help the seniors with exercise programs at Game Shape. Joanne Maidment is a true believer in “Body Age.” She added, “You're only as young as you feel.” And Shari Josephson, a new Fitness Trainer at Game Shape, believes, “it’s never too late to get in shape.” She has worked in an assisted living home in the past and offers full body workouts while being seated in a chair. This exercise is helpful for seniors who cannot stand for an extended period of time.
And look to Lori Gerbereux, who has recently returned to Game Shape, for inspiration. Ms. Gerbereux inspires people to stay strong, even in the most difficult of times. She knows first hand that it is the only way to battle a malignant brain tumor. Even in the midst of a cancer battle, Ms. Gerbereux won bodybuilding the Lightweight and Master’s divisions along with the Inspiration Award at the Hercules International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Competition. Ms. Gerbereux was featured in the Asbury Park Press in December 2008. By age 20, Ms. Gerbereux had already reached a high level of success, working for Bristol-Meyers Squibb as a research toxicologist. She is currently a clinical nutritionist and offers nutrition seminars as well as personal training at Game Shape.
And entrepreneur, Karen Goeller, ended up at Game Shape when she needed a facility to train her athletes. Ms. Goeller has been training athletes since 1978 and has produced State and National Champions. She is the author of the Swing Set Fitness books, Gymnastics Drills and Conditioning books, and many articles. Her inspiration for writing came after an accident left her with permanent spinal damage. Before her success as a published author, Ms. Goeller worked for Bela Karolyi, owned a gymnastics club, and had a college education that included physical therapy, health, nutrition, and advertising. She has held fitness, nutrition, EMT, and gymnastics certifications. Ms. Goeller has been featured in the media countless times, most recently in The Coast Star and Asbury Park Press.
Dan Greco, long time Game Shape employee, came into the fitness industry after being employed as a Physical Education teacher and coaching basketball and soccer. He has a BA in Health and Physical Education along with a Personal Trainer Certification from the NASM. Mr. Greco enjoys training athletes, but also welcomes weight loss clients. He has written articles including one published in The News Transcript on how the WII Fit is used in Game Shape for fitness and physical therapy clients. This game system helps with range of motion, balance, agility, hand-eye coordination, among other benefits.
New Game Shape Fitness Trainer, Lawrence Zucconi, knows first hand the magic of exercise. He has suffered from asthma since he was a child, but after Mr. Zucconi joined the high school Track Team he virtually became symptom-free. After running Cross-Country and track, Mr. Zucconi realized what his passion was, the human body. He molded himself into an all around fitness trainer with the desire to help adults with weight loss, building muscle mass, and feeing great during and after pregnancy. Mr. Zucconi holds the NASM Personal Trainer Certification.
And Evan Cress, Physical Therapy Aide, shows dedication and compassion for all patients he meets. Mr. Cress has a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and has worked with Autistic children in the past. He enjoys working with people with special needs and enjoys the warm environment that Game Shape offers.
And who doesn’t enjoy a massage? According to Jackie Gaskin, new Game Shape Massage Therapist, “massage can be an important part of a person’s health and wellness program. It can increase range of motion, improve circulation, and help speed up recovery.” Ms. Gaskin offers a 15 minute chair massage to new clients. She was featured in the article, “Educating Minds and Hands” published in Town Trends, May 2007 when she attended the American Institute of Alternative Medicine.
When an individual enters Game Shape they are greeted by Wendy Renzetti and Randie Gertz. Each has tremendous energy and enthusiasm. Mrs. Renzetti knows the challenges of weight loss; she has accomplished a weight loss of 123 pounds. And Mrs. Gertz knows first hand how patients are treated at Game Shape because she was a patient before she joined the Game Shape team. Mrs. Gertz, who does much of the marketing, has the desire to “create awareness in the community that Fitness is for Everyone.”
Of course, this team would not be together without Game Shape Owner, Michelle Wolpov, a seasoned physical therapist. Ms. Wolpov has been a physical therapist for twenty years, but she is also certified as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) and Strength & Conditioning Coach (CSCS). Ms. Wolpov has worked in private clinics, high schools, Montclair State University, and with professional sports teams including the NY Giants. Ms. Wolpov has helped countless patients and athletes deal with injury and illness. Besides her physical therapy and sports related experience, Ms. Wolpov is very skilled in the business world. She completed an MBA degree at Monmouth University, where she graduated #1 in her class, with a 4.0 GPA. Ms. Wolpov was nominated for the New Jersey Women in Business Award and was inducted into the National Honor Society for business students, Beta Gamma Sigma. In 2002, Ms. Wolpov built Game Shape, which offers physical therapy, personal training, massage, nutrition counseling, sports performance training, and a health club with gym memberships. The physical therapy business in this facility is named Professional Sports & Orthopedic Rehabilitation Associates, LLC.
