  • (1888PressRelease) August 16, 2010 - Rob Douglas from CIS toastmasters promised during his election campaign to push hard for the establishment of new Toastmasters clubs in Southern Africa in order to make affordable public speaking and leadership development available to everyone.

    Douglas was inducted on Saturday evening 17th of July 2010 as Toastmasters Southern Africa's Governor for 2010/2011. The induction took place at a gala dinner held at Old Ed's in Houghton, Johannesburg.

    Guest and well known motivational speaker Michael Jackson delivered a riveting speech in front of more than one hundred guests from Toastmaster clubs all over Southern Africa. Jackson's speech titled, "The challenge of change; a new world," enthralled the audience with wisdom, humour and anecdotes.

    After Jackson's speech and dinner, Douglas was formally inducted as governor. Douglas took over from outgoing governor Craig Strachan. The new cabinet for Toastmasters Southern Africa was inducted at the same time.

    Douglas was elected governor at the recent Toastmaster's convention held at Gold Reef City. His vision is to grow Toastmasters Southern Africa and wants to establish a new club in each area. Douglas wants to make affordable public speaking and leadership development readily available in Southern Africa.

    Rob Douglas joined Toastmasters in 1983 and is currently a member of CIS toastmasters in Houghton, Johannesburg. He has held every officer's position in Toastmasters, more than once in certain instances, over the past twenty-seven years, but being elected governor is a first.

    Rob Douglas is a retired chemical engineer and has two daughters. After school, he studied chemical engineering. Douglas holds a MBL from Unisa. He joined Toastmasters twenty-seven years ago to improve his public speaking skills.
