October 26, 2006 - Fantasy Technologies Pte Ltd announced the launch of FantechTV, a versatile Video on Demand Service in Singapore. They will be conducting a 6 month trial here as stipulated by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA).
The whole service will comprise of a complete range of IPTV services, such as broadcast TV (both standard and high-definition quality), video on-demand, games and electronic programming guides.
Mr Sam Guna, Project Manager for Fantasy Technologies Pte Ltd said, “During the trial, we will provide 2000 specially designed IPTV set top boxes for selected trial subscribers who can use them to access the live channels and stored video contents.”
The set top box comes complete with a infra red key board and a full function remote control unit. “Customers can use their set top box’s remote control unit to access electronic program guides and can also access trial live channels, videos and games. Trial Subscribers can access the live channels free of charge while they will pay only for the videos they demand,” added Mr Guna.
FantechTV provides video on demand services for anyone with Internet connection at their home. Registered subscribers in our portal can access our contents. They can either rent or purchase the contents for personal usage. If they choose to rent, the subscriber can view the contents which will be streamed to them. They can view the video almost instantly after payment is made using credit or debit card. If they choose to download, they can download the contents to their hard disk in which they can burn the videos into VCD/DVD. Only contents allowed by the copyright owners will be allowed for download. The videos can also be stored in HDD DivX Player which is readily available in Singapore. They can hook up their HDD DivX player directly to their Standard Definition TV or High Definition TV and watch the videos in higher definition and superior sound quality.
FantechTV can be accessed by via the company’s portal http://www.fantasytechnologies.com or using the specially designed set top box to access the contents.
The trial period will be for a period of six months only. During the trial period several tests will be conducted to merge interactive games, interactive commercials and interactive movies for the full launch.
The evolving IPTV service will also offer advantages for end users over traditional broadcast-TV services, because it will allow full personalization and interactivity. IPTV also promises integration of content and communication services, as well as converged services across mobile terminals and home devices. IPTV service providers will benefit with the ability to launch and upgrade service offerings quickly and easily.
