Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease)
June 23, 2007 - Spoke Digital Films has created a blog to discuss the making of their feature length documentary and to discuss issues surrounding documentary filmmaking in general.
The film, Shielded Brutality, documents a thirty year history of torture and cover-up that has been condemned by the United Nations, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch. Accounts number in the dozens of impoverished citizens tortured by beatings, suffocation, and electric shock at the hands of American men in uniform.
Shockingly, this torture did not occur at Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo Bay. It happened in police stations on the south side of Chicago at the hands of disgraced former Police Commander, Jon Burge, and a group of detectives working under him. The cover-up goes to the highest levels of Chicago's government but has yet to result in criminal punishment for anyone. This provocative story is crying to be heard.
A release date in 2008 is expected, so please subscribe to the blog at www.spokefilms.com to hear about the making in real time.
