Native Americans And Major Corporations - The Talking Stick Takes On A New Role In Current Economy

TransGlobal Summit brings together IBM, WalMart, UPS, ConocoPhillips and others to enrich Native Americans in business at the Celebration of Spirit Event May 7th and 8th, 2009.


Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) May 07, 2009 - The Native American Chamber of Commerce is hosting a two day Trans Global Summit - The Celebration of Spirit-Path of the Warrior event, at the Marriott Woodlands Waterway Hotel, located in The Woodlands, TX. Beginning on May 7th, 2009 and continuing through to May 8th, 2009 the Trans Global Summit will feature some of the most prominent names in television, art, the motorcycle industry, music, politics, and business.

Donald Vann, proclaimed one of the best known Indian artists working in this century by the Cherokee National Historical Society and honored by The Smithsonian Institution's Museum of the American Indian with their top painting award for watercolor painting will be featured at the International Trade Fair at the Marriott Woodlands Waterway Hotel beginning May 7th. Pat Dahnke, Award Winning Fashion Designer and CEO of Designs by Pat will also be a featured artist at The International Trade Fair along with Daniel Sanchez, Cut Throat Customs who will showcase his custom motorcycle "Celebration of Spirit", his tribute to the path of the Native American. The International Trade Fair will include many other Native American artisans and vendors from all over North America. The International Trade Fair is open to the public both days of the event at no charge.

All Native American business owners are encouraged to join the Indian Talking Stick Supplier Diversity Forum, presented by Denise Evans, IBM, on day one. Native American business owners will learn how to become a supplier to the Federal Government/Department of Defense and corporations such as IBM, Marathon Oil, and Northrop Grumman. These major corporations and others spend billions of dollars annually procuring products and services from Native American owned businesses. Clyde Gooden, Vice President of NANA Management Corporation, a 58 billion Inuit Corporation, Anchorage, Alaska and Linda Johnson, ConocoPhillips will moderate this event.

The Ladies of Living Legend Gala will be held at the end of day one and honorees include Johnnie Booker of The Coca Cola Company and Marilyn Johnston, of IBM, for their incredible lifetime achievements on behalf of People of Color everywhere. The dinner and presentation will be held at the Marriott Woodlands Waterway Hotel, The Woodlands, TX.

The two-day Tran Global Summit includes many noted speakers such as: Texas Secretary of State, Hope Andrada; Deputy Secretary of State, Texas, Coby Shorter; Billy Connolly, Vice President, Native Energy; Cleveland Baker, Federal Representative from Small Business Administration and many others will be added.

Day two will continue to educate and expand the knowledge of those in attendance by offering seminars. The seminars will include Green Energy Jobs and Business Loans; The Small Business Administration’s New Programs for Native Americans; Financial Responsibility - newest stimulus loans and funding programs; How Do I Do Business with the Federal Government and Government Entities; New Programs in DNA testing to prove American Indian ancestry. Are they valid? and How do Native People differ from one another?

Kevin Locke, known throughout the world as a visionary Hoop Dancer and the preeminent player of the indigenous Northern plains flute will star and moderate Ghostdance, a special Native American stage production during the evening of May 8th which culminates the Trans Global Summit. The Robert Soto group, world famous dancers from McAllen, Texas will join Kevin Locke in presenting this celebration of Native culture from ancient history to today. The name “Ghostdance” was chosen to honor the survival of the Native American people.

The Achievement Centers’ focus is to improve access to digital information and technology on low-income remote Native American reservations. These technology centers are being sponsored to help to improve educational and employment opportunities, address imbalances in resources and skills and promote self-sufficiency. An Achievement Center provides free access to all ages. It can be a centerpiece for job skills development, a source for life long learning, a path to opportunity through education, and a vehicle for economic improvement. Equipment, curriculum and training are provided by corporate partners in conjunction with the Native American Chamber of Commerce.
