  • Oklahoma City, OK (1888PressRelease) June 04, 2014 - Angela Carlington enlisted in the US Air Force at the age of 18 to attain her degree, build her professional networks, and gain personal growth. Staying true to her goals, she was blessed with numerous opportunities, which led to a long, 27-year tenure in the US Air Force. She entered the Air Force as a "slick sleever" (Airman Basic), earned her degree, then applied and was accepted into Officer Training School in 1999. She currently holds the rank of Major.

"Keeping it real is not just a cliché, but an expression of how to act and react in any given situation. If you are making decisions that go against your beliefs, values, and morals, then you're not being real or true," Ms. Carlington explained. "There's a way to get the most out of life without losing your soul and not every negative experience is a setback. These ideas helped me climb the ranks in the Air Force and are reflected in my upcoming book."

Ms. Carlington believes in surrounding herself with positive, encouraging personalities as a source of strength. She attributes her success to faith, family, and determination to rise out of the "poor-but working" segment of society. As for short-term plans, she looks forward to retiring within the next 12 months. Having served on active duty for nearly three decades, Ms. Carlington is hoping to complete her book, entitled 'Letters to Uncle', which is 10 years in the making.

Married with two children, Mrs. Carlington holds a Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a Master's Degree in Public Administration with an emphasis on Health and Human Services from Upper Iowa University. This fall, she will complete her Master's-level Certification in Distance Education, with an emphasis on Teaching and Training, through the University of Maryland University College. Among her many accomplishments, she has earned the Meritorious Service Medal, two Air Force Commendation Medals, three Air Force Achievement Medals, and a Valor for Longevity. Additionally, she is working to start a Non-Profit organization, called Angie4Civlity. The website will be in full swing by December 2014.
