August 10, 2008 - In response, School Districts, teachers and students scramble to create fundraising programs. In conjunction with several major regional school boards and student groups USB Source has expanded its already robust fundraising programs to help address the looming deficits.
Peter Thomas of USB Source states, “ We set up a number of on-line surveys with over a dozen schools located across the country and 2 national students groups. Our goal was to seek their input in creating more effective and profitable fundraising programs. What we learned was very interesting. The previously popular fundraising efforts were producing diminishing returns, what the schools and the students felt would be very desirable to raise funds are products we were already familiar with. These include, flash drives, digital picture frames, MP3’s and digital cameras. For us to develop a program that met their needs was a piece of cake”.
Over the past decade funding shortfalls have reached near epidemic proportions according to the National Educational Organization. It is estimated that in 2007 compared to available information from 1997 the drop in funding for team sports, electives and extra-curricular outings fell nearly 39%. As a result independent fundraising NGO’s working with individual districts and schools have created programs to create revenue to backfill this shortfall. In 2007 it was estimated that these programs, fundraising experts and NGO’s helped raise nearly 2 billion dollars with the help of local and regional grass roots efforts.
These programs have evolved over the past 25 years from the simple carwash to multi-level, sophisticated and targeted fundraising programs, that without the nations educational programs would suffer.
