Ann Arbor based Ghostly International is in it's 7th year of releasing curated Avant-Pop and Electronic albums, a mix of aesthetic and art, with a high focus on spotlighting beautiful music that might otherwise be ignored.
The roster has grown from our original local crew of Dykehouse, Matthew Dear, Dabrye and Midwest Product to include artists from all over the US and World, including Mobius Band, Skeletons & The Kings of All Cities, Lusine, Portable, Kill Memory Crash and others. Aside from Ghostly's more listening based music, the label now includes a sister imprint entitled Spectral Sound, which deals in dance-floor based music.
According to Anthony Bruno, senior writer for Billboard Magazine, covering the emerging field of digital entertainment, online licensing is the latest way for producers and music supervisors to quickly figure out what songs to use. He also said they were turning to iTunes, but then they’d have to figure out how to license what they picked, which can be a slow and painful process, especially if the tracks they want are too expensive. Voila online licensing is a great way to choose from tracks that are professionally filtered, pre-cleared, and ready to go.
There’s no price haggling or lawyers involved. It’s been said that the online version of music licensing saves at least 25 – 125 hours.
There are three main players in this arena – Pump Audio, Rumblefish, and Musync (http://www.musync.com), the new kid, with 10,000+ tracks, Musync specializes in Pre-Hit Music – indie artists and labels that have been tested, filtered, and pre-cleared. Musync is the fastest growing and has the best quality music online. They recently also signed Irma, an Italian label that provided tracks for Sex and the City and also The Rurals, a group that licensed music to Six Feet Under.
