Murder Rock's 18th Hole Lives Up To Its Name

The newest course in southwest Missouri, John Daly's Murder Rock Golf and Country Club is as challenging as it is beautiful.

Springfield, MO (1888PressRelease) September 15, 2007 - The newest course in southwest Missouri, John Daly's Murder Rock Golf Course and Country Club is as challenging as it is beautiful. Designed to incorporate the mountains and valleys in the Ozarks, Murder Rock provides breathtaking vistas in the midst of a championship course.

The signature 18th hole is extremely challenging, according to Chris Meade, resident professional at Murder Rock Course. "I think it's the toughest hole in Missouri," Meade says.

Designed by Landmark Golf, legendary creators of Kiawah Island, PGA West, and LaQuinta, just to drop a few names, Murder Rock Golf and Country Club is the company's first foray into the Ozark region. Mountainous terrain was a challenge for the team, but more of a contest to work with the setting, not against it. And the results speak for themselves.

Located on the luxury residential development, The Communities at Branson Creek in Hollister, Murder Rock's front nine begin in the valley, a basin that creates shadows, breezes, and cooler temperatures that can alter shots between morning and afternoon. The location of the front nine can create a sense of accomplishment and security for the morning golfer, with softer greens and less wind, but create challenges for the afternoon tee time. But the front nine are just a warm up, a test of worth for the golfer who dares to venture to the back nine.

Located 400 feet higher in elevation than the front, the back nine are like no other in the state... and possibly the country. At an elevation of 1310 ft, you don't need oxygen to play, but you might to survive yoru shots. With several par threes to lull the golfer into a sense of security and ease, the 18th hole - The Finisher- will seperate the duffer fromt he 2-handicapper. And the 2-handicapper is offered no guarantees. The hike (or cart drive) up hill will remind you that you are heading to the pinnacle of golf in Missouri.

The 460-yard par 4 (yes, 4) looks deceptively straightforward. And it is - straight uphill and into the wind. The two fairway bunkers that flank the fairway seem manageable. That is, until you consider the wind. With no other hill to block the swirling wind, you better have good control over your slice. The 11,000 square feet of green also seems aproachable until you notice that your ball glides back down the slope to your feet when you place short of the hole...or behind it...or to the left...or right.

Meade is confident that any golfer visiting Murder Rock will be thrilled with the natural beauty and challenges it offers. "9 is the prettiest hole," remarks Meade, "but I dare you to tell me there is a tougher finish than our 18th...in Missouri or almost anywhere."
