November 22, 2007 - Pueblo, CO --A retired college dean, Betty Jo sees almost 200 movies a year and currently serves as editor/lead critic for ReelTalk Movie Reviews . She writes film commentary for the Colorado Senior Beacon, News First Online, Real Movie News, The Romance Club and the Omaha Family newspapers. Betty Jo also hosts “Movie Addict Headquarters” on BlogTalkRadio and discusses films on the ReelTalk Movie Reviews radio show. “The Reel Deal: Writing about Movies,” her online course, is offered through the Long Story Short School of Writing and can also be purchased as an E-Book.
While serving as Dean of Humanities at San Diego Mesa College, Betty Jo supervised expansion of the film studies curriculum, designed an “Exploring Human Values through Film” course, coordinated the “Reel to Real Film Forum” program, and performed with the Mesa Musical Comedy Touring Troupe.
During her career as an entertainment journalist, Betty Jo has interviews such stars and filmmakers as Susan Sarandon, Ian McKellen, Angelina Jolie, Aidan Quinn, Barry Bostwick, Tony Shalhoub, Fred Willard, Aaron Eckhart, M. Night Shyamalan, Oliver Parker, Brendan Fraser, Chen Kaige, Rachel Griffiths, Douglas McGrath, Hector Elizondo, and Annette Bening.
Betty Jo, who belongs to the Online Film Critics Society and is a founding member of the San Diego Film Critics’ Society, is a published author. The Romance Club E-Book version of IT HAD TO BE US, a romantic memoir Betty Jo co-authored with her husband (under the pseudonyms of Harry & Elizabeth Lawrence) was honored at the 2006 Hollywood Book Festival as the winner in the E-Book category, and SUSAN SARANDON: A TRUE MAVERICK received Honorable Mention in the Wild Card section of the 2007 New York Book Festival.
