March 27, 2007 - Sitting in her home in the suburbs of Calgary, with her well-employed husband and two healthy children, Darlene Hull, a stay-at-home, Homeschooling mom, didn’t spend a lot of time dwelling on the plight of the 210,000 children under the age of 5 who die each week from extreme poverty, nor of the over 12 million children in the world who have been orphaned by AIDS. She never even gave a passing thought to the over 2.3 million children under the age of 15 who are living with HIV. Without treatment, most will die before their fifth birthday.
She never thought of that at all, until March 18, 2007 when her church began a Compassion in Action Campaign to help the congregation “put feet on their faith”.
Challenged by this vision, Darlene Hull, the “Mom-Defrazzler”, has launched her own project: the “30-Day Moms Against Poverty” campaign to help raise awareness of the need for serious action, and to also raise funds to support the building of an orphanage for AIDS-affected children in Cambodia.
For 30 days in April the Mom-Defrazzler site is calling for a minimum of 180 people to choose just one way to support this vision from a total of 5 different projects listed on the site, each with varying financial commitments. These projects – ranging from signing a petition to sponsoring a child long term – will not only give Moms around the world a strong sense of having taken some small step to change the world, those who support her in this vision will also receive a couple of thank you gifts from Mrs. Hull as a token of her appreciation.
