  • (1888PressRelease) September 21, 2011 - Health professionals traveling on volunteer medical mission trips rely on access to basic supplies and medications to ensure patients receive the best care possible. Nonprofit organizations, such as MAP International, support the work of smaller groups by providing medicines for short-term medical missions.

Clinic settings in under-served, impoverished regions can be challenging given the dearth of basics such as antibiotics, pain relievers, bandages, and examination gloves. In order to truly provide well-rounded care, Medical Missions Kenya and Hunger Relief (MMK) recognizes the need to be fully prepared for its first medical mission this December. With the help of critical health care supplies donated by MAP International and other like-minded organizations, MMK is poised to make access to basic health care services a reality in poverty-stricken regions of Nairobi, Kenya.

"It has been my pleasure to assist MMK with essential medicines and supplies for the [upcoming] mission trip to impoverished communities in Kenya. We, at MAP International, are here to serve the servants as one part of the hand touching those in need," states Belinda Bess of MAP International, an organization dedicated to providing medicines and promoting health around the world.

Founded in May 2011, MMK is a registered nonprofit organization in the state of California and has applied for 501c(3) status. MMK seeks to combat hunger, improve access to health care services, and promote health awareness education in underserved Kenyan communities through medical missions run by volunteer doctors and nurses.

In addition to medical volunteers for the mission to Kenya in December 2011, MMK also seeks assistance for much-needed medical equipment and supplies, such as diabetic glucometers, blood pressure monitors, and medications.
