So far, more minibuses have been sold in one month than have sold over the rest of the year, with particularly high demand for air-conditioned 17 seater used minibuses. The high demand seems to support predictions about changes to UK holidaymaker plans due to the credit crunch.
Simon Joyce, Sales Director at Anchor Vans commented; "This is often a good time of year in terms of used minibus sales, but the last month has been remarkable. We've had a few days of sunshine over April and May, so everyone has been asking for used minibuses with air-conditioning." When asked about the reasons behind the high number of sales, Simon replied; "This is the time of year when the schools have more outdoor, and therefore off-site, sporting events, and also outdoor school trips, so we've had some repeat custom from them. The holiday companies are gearing up for a busy season too by the look of it."
Extensive speculation in the media regarding a change in British holidaymaker habits may also be an explanation for the high sales. "People are looking for cheaper alternatives to flying abroad," Simon commented. "Now that the fuel prices have come down, and people are looking at holidaying in the UK instead, we're seeing more sales of the 9 and 17 seater used minibuses in particular. Many of them have been bought by holiday companies anticipating a better than average year for holidays in the UK."
