May 16, 2008 - The new £180,000 outdoor play attraction is themed around the historic estate and has been constructed next to the existing toddler play area already on site. The attraction also offers an educational experience for visiting school children.
Victoria Wallace of Leeds Castle commented: “At Leeds Castle we are keen to improve our appeal to families, as we know this will help us to increase visitor dwell time and encourage repeat visits. We approached Western Log Group to provide us with a children’s play attraction which would not only be fun for families, but would also be an educational experience at the same time.”
She added: “We are delighted with the attraction and we have received very positive feedback from visitors.” The attraction has designated themed areas following the nature of the castle itself. These include The Gatehouse, The New Castle, The Maiden’s Tower, The Gloriette and The Revetment Walls.
To create a play experience and enable users to play freely, Western Log Group has used nets, swings, climbing walls, tubes, elevators, ramps and ropes, a suspension bridge, spiral slides, high level walkways and many other features to bring character and adventure to the attraction.
Mike James of WLG added: “We have been able to incorporate an educational edge to the play attraction by installing flags and shields with various coats of arms. The children who play on the attraction will be tasked with finding the coats of arms and identify who they belong to.” The royal castle, frequently visited by Henry VIII and his Queen Catherine of Aragon, continues to pull in the visitors with over 400,000 visitors a year to the castle and surrounding gardens and amenities.
