Milton Keynes Firm Wins ‘Training Initiative Of The Year’

The UK’s leading developer of e-learning, incorporating virtual reality environments and ‘serious computer games technology’, Milton Keynes based Skills2Learn, has won the top accolade in the H&V News Awards for ‘Training Initiative of the Year’.

(1888PressRelease) May 19, 2009 - The UK’s leading developer of e-learning, incorporating virtual reality environments and ‘serious computer games technology’, Milton Keynes based Skills2Learn, has won the top accolade in the H&V News Awards for ‘Training Initiative of the Year’, in recognition of their work in forming the innovative e-solar consortium to develop an advanced virtual reality e-learning programme to support students, tutors and individuals in the solar industry.

Judges said the Skills2Learn product was "innovative and creative" and offered a timely, high quality package that includes effective assessment of learning. It is the first of its kind to bring together colleges, sector skills councils, training providers and trade associations, including The College of North West London, Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College, Themba Technology, with the support of Learning Skills Council (LSC), Summitskills, EU Skills, and the Solar Trade Association.

The H&V News Awards took place at The Grosvenor House Hotel and represented the top achievers in the HVAC industry (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning).

The company’s award winning e-learning programme is based on fully interactive multimedia with audio, video, text using 2D and 3D animation and virtual reality. It available for use in colleges and training centres and is designed for apprentices and engineers wishing to advance their career and learn how to install solar domestic hot water systems.

Dr. Majid Al-Kader, Managing Director of Skills2Learn, said: “The technology we used within the programme is extremely engaging and allows students to learn practical skills in a safe, virtual reality environment, by creating the kind graphics and interactivity that is found in advanced computer games. We have successfully developed many virtual reality based e-learning programmes for a wide range of industries and this is an excellent example of the way in which virtual reality training can be applied to a practical application”.

The e-learning training programme consists of eight ‘tutorial-based’ modules with end assessments and five scenarios. Learners can freely select the required module, learn about it using highly interactive sections and explore superb 2D/3D graphics and animations. At the end of each module, they will undertake very carefully designed self-assessments to test their knowledge. Constructive feedback will be shown at the end including scores and recommendations.
