Microsoft Dynamics GP, formerly Great Plains Software Dynamics/eEnterprise initially was designed as GPS Dexterity application back in earlier 1990th. This was in synch with other Accounting/ERP packages for mid-size and large businesses: SAP – ABAP, Navision C/SIDE, C/ODBC, later on Axapta MorphX/X++. For Microsoft Dynamics GP Dexterity still plays important role for GP workstation (so-called fat client) and MS SQL Server DB architecture (DEX_ROW_ID field for each GP table to enable Dexterity fat client functionality)
• Microsoft Dexterity Customization Upgrade. Over the course of business development of 1990th and earlier 2000th Dexterity customization were very popular and the way to go in tuning your business processes in Microsoft Great Plains. However when Microsoft acquired Great Plains Software, it changed the emphasis from Dexterity to Microsoft technologies, especially MS.Net platform: Visual Studio.Net C# & VB and new tools, such as eConnect. This new trend questioned Dexterity customization future longevity and also questioned Dexterity cursor-like database query and update performance, compared to direct SQL access
• Reporting. GP ReportWriter (SOP Long Invoice Form as the most popular modification example), Crystal Reports are now candidates to be redesigned in MS SQL Server Reporting Services. There might be some eligible conservative objections, such as this – Dexterity had over 15 years business customization life, it is probably difficult to find any Microsoft technology, which did exist so long time (if we are not talking about such fundamental OS platforms, such as MS Windows, but again current WindoewsXP is not the same as original Windows 2)
