August 18, 2007 - Microsoft Great Plains version 10.0 is released and at this time, August 2007, upgrade activity is picking up. You can upgrade directly from version 9.0 sp2 or 8.0 sp5. If you have older version of Dynamics GP – you should decide on upgrade strategy, for you upgrade will be two or even more steps, where first you should upgrade to 9.0 sp2. Let take a look at the features
1. Explorer-like buttons: forward and backward. Besides the fact that GP starting with version 8.0 is moving toward MS applications user interface unification direction, now users should recognize and intuitively use MS Internet Explorer intuitive functionality, where intuitiveness should come from general user experience with Microsoft Internet Explorer
2. If you are upgrading from earlier versions. In this case you should probably consider some user interface training, as UI is probably recognizable but substantially different from say what we had for version 6.0 or earlier, where it was not associated with Microsoft ERP products
3. Microsoft Dexterity. No questions, that GP interface changed dramatically, however its architecture has the same skeleton – former Great Plains Dexterity: DYNAMICS.DIC, Dynamics.set, Dex.ini, DEX_ROW_ID, these are Dex components
4. Layouts. Now you can customize your toolbar and change your own interface, which is similar to Microsoft Office family of products. We expect that sometimes your GP consultant will not be able to answer your specific interface question, if you have experimented too much with GP interface, however you should trust your intuition. Also good point is that GP 10 interface seems to be Vista-similar
