March 25, 2006 - Folk Rock/Indie band Mersy Street has released **A Summer Day**, the bands first SINGLE from their debut album *Kingsford Drive*. Taking a less is more approach to the production values on this record, the album echo’s early Doobie Brothers and 10,000 Maniacs simplicity with a ‘70s pop feel.
“This is a bedroom-recorded tapestry of fun folk/pop from a 17-year-old kid’s carefree days of summer.” Say Steven Adams, the main writer and founding member of the band.
“I’m reaching back to the first songs I ever wrote ( 1975 ) and brining them back to life!”
“Mersy Street is more of a project than anything else. The original band broke up in ’99 but I wanted to keep going with it. So now contributing members always change, the line up depends on who I’m hanging out with at the time and if they are interested in making music.
If know one wants to get in to a project, I’ll give fictional musicians the credit! I don’t like pasting my name all over everything on album credits, I think it looks stupid.
Over the years the people involved in my life and music have changed and that effects everything, the way you sound, what you write etc. You never do anything in a vacuum, especially artistic expression and that includes everything from taking a picture and painting to writing songs.”
“We ( the original band ) chose the name because we all liked the Peter Gabriele song. But as time went on we realized that God’s mercy was being played out in each day of our lives. We felt that we were sort of living our lives on a kind of mercy street.
The spelling was changed to M-e-r-s-y because a lot of other people are using the proper way to spell it, still means the same to me!”
