Meredith Broadcasting Group and Rebuilding Together Join Forces on Home Repair Projects

National Media Company will partner with a leading volunteer home repair organization to restore homes in Atlanta's English Avenue and Vine City districts.

(1888PressRelease) July 09, 2008 - DES MOINES, IA/ATLANTA, GA - On July 10 and 11, management from the Meredith Broadcasting Group and Meredith’s CBS affiliate, WGCL-TV, will break away from the newsroom and into the homes of two low-income homeowners in the English Avenue community. In partnership with Rebuilding Together, the Meredith team, led by President Paul Karpowicz and WGCL-TV’s General Manager Andy Alford, is volunteering it’s time to help make some much-needed improvements and repairs to the recipients’ homes.

RTA works to assure that low-income homeowners, particularly older adults, people with disabilities and multi-generation families, live in warmth, safety, and independence. Through the use of volunteers and sponsors, Rebuilding Together is able to carry out its mission of preserving and revitalizing homes and communities at no cost to the homeowner. Meredith Corporation has been a long-time supporter of Rebuilding Together in Atlanta, Chicago, Des Moines, and other communities.

“The Meredith Broadcasting Group has a strong legacy of serving viewers,” said Paul Karpowicz, President of the Meredith Broadcasting Group. “Our partnership with Rebuilding Together allows us to continue our history of service while helping some of our most vulnerable neighbors and enhancing the community.”

The two homes designated for this week’s projects have already been prepped by licensed RTA project managers and volunteers. By utilizing durable materials, painting with eco-friendly products, and landscaping with native plants, this home will be revitalized and present a safer and more enjoyable living environment. Rebuilding Together and its partners are focused in their efforts to revive these challenged areas, and restore a spirit of unity, safety, and neighborhood pride for those residents that have traditionally underrepresented. For more information about RTA or to become a volunteer, please visit www.rebuildingtogether-atlanta.org or call (404) 351-4949.
