September 17, 2007 - Megacollage, a pioneer in online media compilations, today announces James Bond Movie Ranking, a section of its web site that features a ranking of every James Bond movie ever made, utilizing a clever formula based on the Bond formula itself. Every movie has a detailed declassification of nine key elements of any 007 movie: the opening, the title song and credits, the villains, the girls, the gadgets, the chases, the binds, the one-liners and the locations. Each movie is then ranked against the others in each of those nine categories, and then an average is taken to determine the overall rank of each movie.
"Everyone has an opinion about what their favorite Bond movies are, and this ranking may or may not match your favorites, but it does equally weigh in a breadth of factors to yield as balanced, unsubjective results as possible. The Spy Who Loved Me ranks in as the top Bond movie, and the top Moore-Bond movie. Ranking no lower than 2nd in any category, it has the best opening, title song and credits, villains, gadgets, chases and locations.
The World Is Not Enough ranks in as the second-best Bond movie, and the top Brosnan-Bond movie. Ranking in the top half in all categories, it has the best binds and one-liners, and the second-best chases and locations.
Goldfinger ranks in as the third-best Bond movie, and the top Connery-Bond movie. Mired only by a lack of breadth in its locations, it has the second-best title song and credits and villains, and the third-best binds.
The latest Bond installment, Casino Royale, ranks in at 15th out of the 21 Bond movies. It ranks in the top half in title song and credits, girls and one-liners, but ranks near the bottom in opening, gadgets and chases. "This movie was billed as breaking the formula. In reality, it was much closer to the formula than anyone expected, and I predict the next Craig-Bond movie will be even closer. Bond isn't the most successful, longest-running movie franchise ever for no reason - it has a winning formula, and changing it would be as big a failure as Coke changing their formula to New Coke. Casino Royale was a very good movie, but most Bond movies are, and the Megacollage ranking shows that there are other Bond movies that bring together more of the most-classic Bond elements in one place," said Consolatti.
