August 15, 2009 - Mariko Jacinto's exhibition, Continuum will include still life and portraits from 1996 to 2009. On display from August 20-28, 2009, this is Ms. Jacinto's second exhibition in New York City.
Born in the Philippines to a Japanese mother and Filipino father, Ms. Jacinto, after raising five children, decided to devote herself to her art; studying figure and still life painting under Sam Adoquei at the National Academy, painting from life and portraiture under Oldrich Teply and, abstract painting under Frank O'Cain at the Arts Student's League.
Ms Jacinto brings her intimate knowledge of both cultures to her work, along with the major influences of Van Gogh, de Kooning, and R.B. Kitaj. Continuum is Ms. Jacinto's second exhibition in New York City.
" I am deeply honored to have my work exhibited at the Philippine Center," said Ms. Jacinto. As an artist, "when something strikes me, I have to paint it. I am like a chameleon, continually evolving and changing. My life's journey has been a continuous flow, always fluid and this is reflected in my work."
The Philippine Center is located at 556 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10036. For information and hours, call 212-764-1330 or visit: www.pcgny.net.
