August 16, 2008 - The Alaskan Native Veterans Association group in Fairbanks, Alaska awarded the 10 life-size Alaskan Territorial Guard (ATG) statue project to MARBLECast Products, Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah this month.
A 5-year project in the making, this special project is being built to honor the sacrifices of the native Alaskan people who assisted the United States in guarding the borders from foreign invasion during World War II. The natives of many Alaskan tribes have long yearned for such a memorial in honor of their contribution.
Vasilios Karpos, CEO of AECO, Inc., said “we feel incredibly honored to be such an important part of a historical remembrance…”. The sculpting will begin in November with the first of the ten castings to begin in January 2009. Delivery of the first sculpture is planned to be mounted and unveiled in Anchorage at the site of a new veterans memorial plaza currently being completed.
The other nine sculptures will be located in native villages whose ancestors served as Alaskan Territorial Guards. The entire project, worth well over $150,000 is planned to take up to 18 months to be completed.
