December 28, 2007 - A three dimensional logo isn’t the only thing that’s changed at SpivO. For nearly a year, a SpivO renovation was planned out. New software was acquired, new channels were custom built by the Adviatech Corp., development team, content licenses were purchased, and thousands of gigabytes of storage was acquired, then SpivO moved to a new, stable, server environment.
In mid December of 2007, SpivO launched their first new channel, SpivOVideo.com (http://www.spivovideo.com) which allows users to upload videos onto the web. Some channels were dropped such as the SpivO Zodiac and SpivO Maps which didn’t attract a large enough user base to justify the used resources.
When SpivO launched as a search engine in 2004, SpivO offered users a search engine, some news feeds, and a web directory powered by the Open Directory Project. Later on, SpivO launched their own human edited directory. At over fifteen thousand entries, SpivO decided to close the directory and use the Dmoz directory feed.
SpivO project manager and Adviatech Corp. VP, Jason Bland, explains. “SpivO’s new objective is to bring new content to the internet and if we can’t do that, bring existing content to SpivO. The Dmoz directory is a huge resource and a well managed one. We feel that it will bring a better experience to SpivO users then what we could provide with an internet directory at this time. In the future, as our American user base grows, we will revisit that perspective.”
