Buffalo-Niagara Falls, NY (1888PressRelease)
August 07, 2008 - CHEEKTOWAGA, NEW YORK - It’s been said that doing good is its own reward. For DirectBuy of Buffalo’s Bill Mahoney, that certainly was the case as he, along with more than 6,200 others, participated in the Ride for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Little did he know this participation would prompt a new award at DirectBuy of Buffalo—Do-Gooder of the Month.
“This award is something we’ve been thinking about doing for a while now, but Bill taking part in the Ride for Roswell moved it along,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo. “The Do-Gooder of the Month award recognizes employees and vendors of DirectBuy of Buffalo going above and beyond the call of duty, at work or in their efforts in the community. Bill is most deserving of this first award for contributing to a very worthy cause, The Ride for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.”
The 2008 Ride for Roswell, held on June 27, raised more than $1.8 million dollars. That figure is likely to grow as donations are being accepted until September 1, 2008.
As for DirectBuy of Buffalo’s Do-Gooder of the Month, beyond the recognition, the recipient receives restaurant gift certificate. Yet according to Mahoney, he received much more from participating in the ride.
“Whether is a family member, friend or loved one, cancer has hit somebody you know. Taking part in the Roswell Ride as part of my girlfriend’s team (PACAR) started out as a fun thing to do for a very worthy cause. What it really showed me is how this terrible disease can bring out the very best in people. The support of the people here at DirectBuy of Buffalo, financial and otherwise, was just incredible,” said Mahoney, a marketing associate.
