November 08, 2007 - Maarga Systems Private Limited, a leader in offshore Lotus Notes application development, announced today that it has acquired the kNEWS™ software product line from Gallatin Technologies, Inc. The products comprise an electronic publishing solution that enables organizations to create and deliver content through e-mail (plain-text, Notes rich text, and HTML), RSS feeds, and the Web.
Both Maarga Systems and Gallatin are closely-held, private companies and the financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition is intended to accelerate the development of the kNEWS architecture and to further Maarga’s strategy of increasing the value it brings to customers by leveraging its service offerings with rich product solutions.
The kNEWS product line consists of:
- kNEWS Professional™ which provides the means for end-users to create, deliver, and track a variety of e-mail, Web, Lotus Notes, and RSS publications in the business context specified by their organization. For example restricted access to a publication – or parts of a publication; defined roles in the publication process for content creation, editing, and publishing; and various levels of audit trail/logging.
- kNEWS ListBuilder™ which includes 4 of the 6 modules in kNEWS Professional and offers a rich set of functions to help an organization manage e-mail groups -- Notes and/or Internet.
- Mail Bounce Assistant™ (MBA) which processes e-mail bounce messages in a Notes/Domino environment, either in a stand-alone mode or integrated with kNEWS.
kNEWS combines electronic communications capabilities with specialized, web content management functionality to provide a publishing platform that is very useful for organizations in government, hi-tech, education, and manufacturing. These organizations often need a system that: brings integrity and repeatability to the communications and publishing processes, can be managed by business users, and requires minimal ongoing support from IT.
"The combination of kNEWS and MBA will save customers time and effort by identifying different types of e-mail bounces and then automatically removing subscribers whose e-mail addresses are no longer valid," noted Maarga's Managing Director, Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy. "Government agencies and commercial enterprises are using the kNEWS system to manage online subscriptions and deliver information through multiple electronic channels.
Sample Use of kNEWS -- Improving Communications with Constituents
City of Chandler, Arizona uses kNEWS to build and manage opt-in e-mail list groups and to notify constituents when new information or services are added to its website.
Chandler citizens may subscribe to receive road construction updates, news and events information, Center for the Arts announcements, agenda notices and e-newsletters from other City departments. When new content is released to the City website in these different content categories, Chandler can proactively notify citizens and show them exactly where the information is located. kNEWS is helping Chandler improve constituent communications and drive more frequent use of its website.
