(1888PressRelease) December 05, 2007 - Hear some up and coming talent from Melbourne, We have the talented Lydia Phillips, The Strain one of the best local modern rock bands around and up and coming rock band Callous Clown who also play some fantastic rock music and only $10 at The Cornish Arms on January the 18th, All these artists are worthy of the exposure and the publicity and for the price you are hearing some local talent that are going to be doing big things.

With an intimate sound blending indie folk and pop rock, Lydia Phillips is an Australian singer/songwriter emerging as a dynamic force.

Lydia writes and performs with a seductive honesty and energy that has captivated eclectic crowds. Indeed, her live shows are known to draw the masses.

Since beginning her solo performances in Port Fairy, Western Victoria as a 17-year old, Lydia has played at music festivals, jazz clubs, lounges, country races and concert halls around Australia and has frequently appeared with guitarist Tim O'Donnell. She performed solo in New Jersey USA in 2005.

Lydia was born in Melbourne, Australia and grew up surrounded by music. She has studied classical piano for 16 years and acoustic guitar for eight years. She began guitar as an accompaniment for her first original songs and has since incorporated piano, cello, electric guitar, bass and drums into her sound.

Now 22 years old, Lydia has worked with a talented group of musicians - Tim O'Donnell (from 'Thin Man' and 'The Disappointments'), Jeremy Staples (from 'Funk The Distance' and 'Mojo Rising'), Jono Correa and Madeleine Coulter - to produce her independent EP Hibiscus January .

From the reflective ballad "Hibiscus January" and folk-inspired love song "Time Somewhere" to the emotionally-charged rock song "Please", Hibiscus January showcases a true diversity in sound that is rare among emerging artists. Each track's lyrics carry an insightful, sometimes playful, depth that distinguishes Lydia Phillips from most contemporary songwriters and makes the listening experience all the more satisfying.

"Lyrics are incredibly important to me, because it's the meaning in a song that often unites the room," Lydia says. "It's hard to feel strongly about a song that doesn't really say anything. These songs were written at different stages and different ages, but they're hopefully connected by a thoughtfulness and expressiveness that will unify and ignite people."

And ignite they do. Lydia's performances draw large crowds and her ease on stage combined with her cascading vocals can stir or silence the room. Now with a full band, she is excited about their upcoming shows.

"The songs just keep evolving with these guys - I'm very lucky to have such an incredible group of musicians to play with. I can't wait to launch the EP and play our other live shows because there'll be real energy on stage. We're raring to go."

Melbourne-based four piece rock outfit The Strain first burst your eardrums playing as Limestone in 2003. After enjoying great success with their debut EP ‘angel falls’ in 2005 and more recently undergoing a lineup change and 10 months in the studio, The Strain have emerged in 2007 to begin promoting their debut studio album. Grittier and with a distinctly more raw sound, The Strain have truly earned their excellent reputation as one of the best rock bands to see live in Melbourne

Callous Clown: With a mix of bluesy vocals, heavy guitars, smooth bass and a hard hitting Groove Drummer, Callous Clown create a new, unique rock sound. With influences ranging from funk, 70's British rock and classic aussie pub rock, Callous Clown deliver a driving, riff based sound.
