March 15, 2009 - Micron and Nanya Techonologies, jointly took the decision to develop low-power DDR2 (LPDDR2) for mobile and consumer applications. At the initail stage they have decide to develop upto the capacity of 1 GB. It is said that this LPDDR2 is designed is such a way that it would reduced power consumption by 50%.
John Schreck, vice president of DRAM design at Micron said, “LPDDR2 DRAM is important for the design of today’s mobile applications, prolonging a device’s battery life with its low-power consumption and improvement of overall system performance compared to low-power DDR1”. It is also said that, this high-performance LPDDR2 is a new development in technology and Nanya played a vital role in development of LPDDR2.
According to Joe Ting, senior vice president of Nanya,“The technical success of jointly developed LPDDR2 design has justified the synergetic nature of two major DRAM suppliers, who are committed to serving customers with leading technologies and designs,”. Nanya is also planing to lunch more both low-power and high performance characteristic in one design that would meet the needs of the mobile world.
