February 29, 2008 - Area Cleaning Service of Middleburg Heights has joined up with Cleaning for a Reason, a national non-profit charitable foundation, to provide free and discounted housekeeping services to women undergoing cancer treatment.
Going through radiation and chemotherapy can be not only physically exhausting but mentally and emotionally as well. "I have first hand experience with seeing what happens to people who are not able to take care of their homes because of treatment," said Lisa Zelenka, owner of Area Cleaning Service. “Fighting for your life, means readdressing priorities and we’re happy to place a priority in improving the lives of women undergoing treatment for cancer, by providing free cleaning.”
Debbie Sardone, who is the CEO of Buckets & Bows Maid Service in Texas, founded Cleaning for a Reason in 2006”. In less than 12 months, she had recruited over 85 companies nationwide to serve as local Chapters in over 24 U.S. States. Today, Cleaning for a Reason Chapters can be found in 38 U.S. States and in Canada as well. Requests for services are made through their website, www.cleaningforareason.org and Call Center. Once cancer patients have been verified through their physician, they are matched with local Cleaning for a Reason Chapters, who will do the actual housecleaning, with the parameters of each cleaning set by the individual cleaning company. Families and friends of cancer patients can also donate funds towards additional cleanings on the foundation’s website.
Zelenka encourages other local housecleaning companies to join in this service, and to become a local chapter. ‘What we do, impacts all of us, rather we’re touched by Cancer or not,” said Zelenka, “Making a difference is making a difference, it’s just that simple.”
Area Cleaning Service has been providing residential and commercial cleaning services in Cuyahoga County since 2006.
