October 09, 2008 - Brad Nelson of Kinetic Edge Fitness located in Woodbury, MN will be trading three weeks of his normal routine of teaching kettlebell classes and fitness boot camps to experience what he calls “the-trip-of-a-lifetime” – a mission trip with Eden Prairie's Starkey Hearing Foundation designed to outfit deaf children with hearing aids in schools in South Africa.
Brad became involved with Starkey Hearing Foundation through his wife's parents who have been on the South African mission two years ago. “This year like last is a family affair with three of the 4 siblings and their spouses all attending.” Starkey completes 100+ mission trips per year, mostly to third world countries. Their motto “So the World May Hear” focuses mostly on children. All of the missions are funded by private donations.
Last year’s trip to Romania over the Thanksgiving holiday was Nelson's first mission trip experience. “There is nothing like witnessing first-hand the gift of restored hearing which is something most of us take for granted on a daily basis. To see kids giving thumbs up to each other after hearing running water and electronic hand dryers for the first time in their lives gave a whole new meaning to the word: Thanksgiving,” said Nelson. Brad is looking forward to contributing time again this year
