Local Golf Tour Returns; Re-Branded And Expanded

The much anticipated 2007 Season of the Mission City Golf Tour returns to San Antonio as the Golf Galaxy Tour-San Antonio; part of the nationwide Golf Galaxy Tour, managed by Golf Connect

San Antonio, TX (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2007 - San Antonio, TX -- The Golf Galaxy Tour – San Antonio presented by Callaway Golf (formerly the Mission City Golf Tour, sponsored by Golf Galaxy) is set to kick off the 2007 Tour Season. The tour, which touts itself nationally as “a golf tour for the average golfer”, has 10 events scheduled this year, with the season opener at The Golf Club of Texas at Briggs Ranch, February 17th.

The preliminary schedule has one event a month, February through November at venues such as Olympia Hills, The Quarry, Northern Hills, The Republic, and The Buckhorn to name a few. The full schedule will be available by mid-February.

The tour crowned the Player of the Year for 2006, appropriately, following the final event of the season. One-shot is all that Bradley Eischens needed to lock in the honor. Second place (tie) went to the consistent team of Jay Schroeder and Eric McCabe, both players missing a 3-way tie for first place by 5 derby points. The team of Schroeder/McCabe placed 2nd in the tournament, one shot behind the 1st place team of Mike Flanagan and Andy Gomez. In 3rd place was the team of Dave Roberts and James Forestier. Though Eischens and team mate Eric Covey tied for 4th place (with Mark Lohmeir and Steve Roddy) in the tournament, it was one shot better than a tie for 6th place, which would have been the 5 derby point difference.

The Golf Galaxy Tour – San Antonio is one of more than 60 nationwide tours sponsored by Golf Galaxy, Callaway Golf, Golf Magazine, and Amateurgolf.com, and is designed to give average golfers the opportunity to participate in tournament golf on great local golf courses.

All tournaments are two-person team events played on Saturdays with either a best-ball or scramble format. Tournaments and are open to anyone and everyone who normally score 95 or less for 18 holes. Players receive Merchandise payouts (in the form of Golf Galaxy gift certificates), with a new placement structure for 2007, where 50 percent of field (using post-tournament flighting) share more than $1,000 in prizes (with full-field) per event, and a year long Derby Points contest crowns a “Player of the Year” at the end of the season. Tournaments are limited to the first 50 teams (100 people) that sign up. Players may learn more or enter tournaments securely online at www.MissionCityGolfTour.com
