October 30, 2008 - Family Ties of Westchester, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide lasting and effective support services to families of children in Westchester County with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. Family Ties of Westchester serves families, parents and other caregivers by offering support groups, respite activities and recreational activities throughout the year.
Parents of children with special needs are also assisted by Family Ties of Westchester through the educational services the organization provides. Parents can attend skills trainings and workshops so that they can better understand their child’s emotional and behavioral issues and become equipped with parenting skills and access to necessary information.
As an attorney with Littman Krooks, Ms. Arkontaky focuses on special education advocacy, special needs planning, trusts and guardianship for families of children with disabilities. She has devoted much of her time to assisting families so that they can have access to appropriate educational services for children with special needs.
Ms. Arkontaky’s experience and expertise in the area of special needs planning and advocacy is a perfect fit with Family Ties of Westchester. Family Ties provides advocacy assistance to families, and they are also part of the family support movement, which urges policymakers, social service professionals, and parents to take more responsibility for improving the lives of children with special needs and their families.
In addition to her extensive experience as a legal advocate for children with disabilities, she is also the parent of a special needs child. She will use these professional and personal experiences to assist Family Ties of Westchester in providing families of children with special needs with the tools necessary to help them succeed.
