October 17, 2008 - BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – The Escapes Group, ltd. announced today that it will develop and publish Limited Time. This oversize coffee-table book will showcase limited-edition timepieces and lifestyle events of an exclusive selection of distinguished brands. Renowned watch and jewelry authority and editor Laurie Kahle has been named the publication’s editor.
Limited Time is an annual hard-cover publication that provides an insider’s view of each brand's most impressive timepieces—from chronographs and perpetual calendars to tourbillons and grand complications. Connoisseurs learn about the brands and their featured watches through informed editorial written by acclaimed watch experts. The book will also spotlight special events—such as auto races, polo matches, yachting regattas, and art exhibits—where people gather to celebrate with these companies. A selection of 20 brands will be showcased in 14-page features produced with compelling writing and stunning photography and graphics. In addition to the highlighted timepiece, six additional watches will be catalogued as well. Both the novice and the seasoned collector will gain an in-depth understanding of the complicated movements that power these horological wonders while learning about the brands that produce them.
“These timepieces embody tradition, artisanship, and state-of-the-art technology—they represent both the history and the future of each brand,” comments Kahle, who directed watch editorial at Robb Report for more than eight years and currently contributes to a variety of prestigious watch and lifestyle publications. “They tell more than just time, they tell stories.”
The publication will be distributed annually through carefully selected hotels, charter companies and yacht clubs, and airport hangars where the books will be placed. Primary distribution will initially be in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America. Secondary distribution will take place at watch and jewelry trade shows and through book store sales. Through this distribution, the publication will be viewed by over 250,000 watch enthusiasts per year.
Kahle believes that Limited Time is the first publication that celebrates both sides of the watchmaking realm, taking the reader into the workshops of a Swiss factory and then to the finish line of a brand-sponsored racing event. “We seek to tell the stories behind these remarkable watches,” she explains, “as well as to convey the essences of the illustrious companies that produce these heirlooms and how they express that spirit.”
