  • (1888PressRelease) December 17, 2010 - Bradford, Penn. - From curling to cross country skiing, The Lodge at Glendorn and Allegheny National Forest (ANF) offer outdoor enthusiasts more things to do than ever before this winter season. Established as a millionaire getaway in the '20s, Glendorn is a premier four star lodge on 1,280 beautiful, densely wooded acres with private, deluxe accommodations, gourmet dining and world-class activities. The Wine Spectator Award winner is situated right next to majestic Allegheny National Forest which offers visitors over 513,000 acres of outdoor fun.

"We've come a long way since the days when Glendorn shut down during the winter months," observes Damon Newpher, general manager of The Lodge at Glendorn. "Winter is an incredibly beautiful time of year here and we have put a lot of time and effort into pulling together experiences that will be truly memorable for our guests. And because we provide all the equipment required for our guests' complimentary use, they can experience a wide variety of activities without the hassle of lugging or renting what they need."

    Unique On-Site Activities
For cross country skiing enthusiasts, Glendorn features both groomed and back country skiing terrain suited for all skill levels. This season all new cross country equipment including boots, skis and poles have been added and lessons are available for beginners. There are three warming cabins with wood burning fireplaces strategically located in order to give skiers a chance to catch their breath before continuing on their way. Glendorn's trail system is also ideal for snowshoeing and guests can hike to The Hideout where staff will set up a gourmet lunch and have a fire waiting for their arrival.

Guests can also explore the property and experience the excitement of snowmobiling on a guided snowmobile tour. Glendorn's guides will provide a fun, safe and informative tour that includes groomed trails, large open meadows and scenic views making the experience full of adventure and fun for all ages. In addition, visitors to Glendorn can experience the thrill of riding in a 4x4 Jeep equipped with MATTRACKS tracks system that allows access to the most remote areas of the property. For those who enjoy a gentler pace, scenic horse-drawn sleigh rides are also available.

During January, February and March, guests can enjoy a day on one of Glendorn's lakes with an ice fishing guide fishing for walleye, pike and various pan fish species. They can take a break and enjoy a gourmet lunch and hot chocolate in a heated ice tent and in the evening enjoy a gourmet fish dinner prepared with what they caught that day.

Other fun activities include outdoor curling which made its debut at Glendorn in 2009 complete with new curling equipment, lighting and warming hut; sledding and ice skating. And skeet shooting, fly fishing and horseback riding are available year round.
