August 06, 2008 - The 10th Annual “Stop the Violence/Family Awareness Day” brought a host of community and business leaders to the burgeoning city of Anniston, AL. In an effort to create awareness of the needs of children and young adults, the Anniston Department of Parks and Recreation has been instrumental in facilitating educational programs and initiatives for the city's youth. For the past ten years, this community-focused event has garnered support from influential men and women from all walks of life. One of its biggest supporters, Coach Ken Woods of Coach Speaks based in Atlanta, Georgia, is a former “Coach of the Year” in Basketball, mentor, counselor and life coach to students, professional athletes and corporate business people, and was the event's special invited guest honored with the key to the city of Anniston.
With over two decades of hands-on work with children and teens, Coach Ken Woods has provided motivational talks, trainings, and resources to aid in the effort of empowering the youth and giving them hope for a brighter future. Receiving the key to the city of Anniston is an honor that Coach Woods gladly embraces, yet remains extremely vocal that the mission is not about him.
