September 08, 2007 - Las Vegas, NV – Las Vegas local indie-filmmaker group Vision Dynamics Entertainment (VDE) was at one time, a promising outlook to independent film in this town. Almost 8 years ago, Kelly Schwarze, founder of VDE, and his buddies set out to start their movie careers with a small slapstick comedy film called Poking the Eye of the Storm, which turned out to be decent enough for the VDE team to get a 600-guest standing ovation on its premiere night, and gain local celebrity status in Las Vegas. Fast-forward to 6 years later, the VDE team had completed two other feature films, one of which is currently being distributed worldwide, and the other premiered at the Palms Brenden Theatres in June 2005. What the young filmmakers didn’t know is how difficult the months and years ahead would be for their indie movies. You would think after pulling cash out of every corner of their lives from family, friends and full-time jobs, just the thought of making more independent features would break their backs and banks, but something has definitely been looming in the air for this group and they have not been hiding under a rock – if anything, they’ve been busy gaining international exposure. It’s called Smidgits.com.
In April 2006, Kelly Schwarze launched Smidgits.com to take advantage of the viral video market and the limitless possibilities to distribute content on their own via the Internet. It is a video site created by VDE that releases new and original content weekly. They film almost every week, edit the content, upload them in minutes for the world to view online and get feedback within the hour. Over 42 “micro-movies” and thousands of views on their content later – what happens in Vegas certainly gets all over the world, which is a refreshing outlook for this group and any indie filmmaker looking for exposure for that matter. At the end of September, the Smidgits crew will be headed to Ontario, California sponsoring the 3rd Annual New Media Expo, which brings together influential digital media creators from all over the world. This is definitely exciting times for Smidgits and everyone involved in this New Media movement, and it certainly has been a dream for these local filmmakers.
