July 11, 2008 - Lap of Luxury Lap Desk owner Kathleen Hogan announces that as of July 1, 2008, lap desks will be entirely handmade by her. Previously the wood tops were cut in a commercial shop. “I want to give a personal touch to the desks,” she states. “Buying a product that is made in America is important to my customers. A handmade lap desk becomes an heirloom.”
Making lap desks requires a working knowledge of routers, belt sanders, four types of saws, nail guns, and various hand tools. “The wood is alive. Even after they are sanded, the edges develop small rough spots. I use an oil finish to keep the wood soft. Small inconsistencies in the making of each board add charm to the total product.”
Lap Desks are available in two sizes and can be shipped the same day. Custom orders are welcome.
