August 01, 2009 - Ms. Mao focuses her practice for fraud and regulatory litigation proceedings. She received her J. D. and B.A., cum laude, from the Hong Kong University. Ms. Mao is a member of the Hong Kong Bar Association and the International Financial Crime Confederation.
Ms. Mao has been involved in numerous cases involving fraud, in particular corporate fraud, both internal and external and often with an international element. With a higher burden of proof and the risk of issue-based costs orders, it is crucial that the case is appropriately presented to underwriters/funders. She has been involved in a number of fraud related cases in recent years, some of which required risk transfer terms in excess of 5million HKD.
Vanessa Mao regularly negotiate on the client’s behalf to ensure that any ATE insurance policy or Third Party Funding terms appropriately meet the needs of the client, rather than simply accepting standard terms from funders and insurers, if those terms are inadequate.
Vanessa is a regular speaker in legal conferences for corporate counsel and business chambers in Hong Kong, Singapore and China.
Ms. Mao speaks fluent English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. She also speaks German and has some proficiency in Spanish.
