The event, established by civil rights icon Ruby Bridges and First Lady Cheryl Landrieu, will raise awareness about children's literacy and feature books, food and entertainment. The New Orleans Children's Book Festival promotes literacy by providing children with the opportunity to hear readings from renowned authors. This free festival also features a variety of engaging activities for children of all ages.

Kima Lucille Richard is a resident of St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, a place that she affectionately refers to as "the Parish" or "South New Orleans." Kima is a Cum Laude graduate of Southern University at New Orleans; she is currently a graduate student at Our Lady of Holy Cross College, where she is pursuing a Masters degree in Counseling. In her free time, Kima enjoys writing, vintage shopping and attending plays. Kima aims to create a series of History and Heritage books that promote self-love, positive self-image, cultural awareness, and cultural pride. Possibilities, is the first book in the History and Heritage Series.
