April 16, 2009 - Kerr Drug, a leading innovator and provider of pharmacy and other healthcare related services, is reinventing the traditional community pharmacy with the conversion of select stores into Naturally Kerr locations. The Naturally Kerr locations will become a “store within a store,” replacing traditional “drug store” convenience items such as automotive and hardware with natural, homeopathic and organic products. Naturally Kerr will fill about ¼ of the retail space.
“Customers are more educated about wellness and they want natural, holistic healthcare,” says Anthony Latini, manager of Kerr Drug’s Harvest Plaza store in Raleigh. “So we are combining the traditional community pharmacy with natural and complementary health solutions to meet the demand.”
Naturally Kerr stores open in Raleigh and Asheville on Earth Day, April 22. More stores are planned. The new retail concept continues Kerr Drug’s history of innovative healthcare which began with the Asheville Project. The collaboration between the City of Asheville, NC and Kerr Drug deployed pharmacists to offer preventive and chronic disease treatment programs and reduced yearly healthcare costs by $2000 per employee.
“Kerr Drug has always looked to the future of healthcare,” adds Diane Justice, Asheville store manager. “So we picked Earth Day to unveil Naturally Kerr and celebrate the drug store of the future and the future of the planet!”
Naturally Kerr’s Homeopathic department will carry a complete line of health and beauty aids, supplements, baby and child remedies, diet and energy digestive and herbal products.
The Natural and Organic categories will include wheat-free/gluten free baking mixes, grains, desserts, snacks, cereals; breakfast products; candy, cookies, crackers; meals-to-go, entrees and soups; juices; pastas and sauces; organic pet food; coffees and teas and a variety of pantry items.
