May 09, 2007 - The Kansas Unclaimed Property Division of the Treasury Department will hold this money until the owners claim it.
This Kansas lost money comes from old checking accounts, abandoned savings accounts, bonds, dividends, old paychecks, child support payments, alimony payments, and many more places.
KS unclaimed money is turned over to the state after the account or property has sat dormant for about three years and the institution holding the money has not had contact from the owner and has been unable at the reach the owner with the contact information on file.
Each year approximately $10 million of KS unclaimed funds is returned to the rightful owners. While this is progress in returning the money it is only 5% of the unclaimed money being held.
