March 30, 2009 - Mike Sexton, a digital artist based in Kansas will be having his first professional solo art show in 2010 and recently he was interviewed online. He was asked many thought provoking questions about how he got into the arts, what advice he'd give to budding artists & what some of his favorite ways are to beat creative blocks along with many other interesting questions.
When did you first become interested in art?
I’ve been drawing, doodling and designing since I was a little boy; I first began sketching things around me and in high school I was one of those kids who designed his own notebooks hehe. A little later on I began designing my own bookmarks to use- I guess I always had to have things “personalized” to show my personality & flair. A few years back I began designing on my computer and started drawing using my pc mouse at first til I got my graphic tablet that I use to this day.
What style of art do you use most?
Hard to always place my art in certain styles; I had one of my earlier dragon paintings actually compared to Gauguin’s style which I took with extreme pride- to be compared to such a well known and famous artist is truly an honor. I create Celtic knots and I guess you could say I paint realistically for the most part.
