Kannapolis Intimidators To Host Jimmy Murphey Fundraiser Night At Ballpark on August 21st

The Kannapolis Intimidators (Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox), in conjunction with Toyota of Concord, Cabarrus County Building Industry Association, and The Compass Agency, have announced a fundraiser for local Concord resident Jimmy Murphey.

(1888PressRelease) July 31, 2009 - Kannapolis, NC - Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium will play host to the event on Friday, August 21st as the Intimidators take the field against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Rays Affiliate). For every regular-priced ticket ($6.00-General Admission, $8.00- Reserved) purchased to that evening’s game, $3.00 will go to the Jimmy Murphey Home Project fund. Once inside the stadium, fans will have an opportunity to participate in a sports memorabilia silent auction and get more information on what they can do to help.

Game time is 7:05 p.m. with the gates opening at 6:00 p.m. Fans will also be treated to a post-game Fireworks Show sponsored by Centralina Orthopaedics. Tickets may be purchased at the Intimidators Box Office, via telephone, or online at www.intimidatorsbaseball.com.

Many people are aware of who Jimmy Murphey is, others may not recognize the name, but know him merely as “the guy that feeds all those people at Christmas every year”. Over the last 40 years, Mr. Murphey has helped feed over 400,000 people at Christmas time in the Concord/Kannapolis, NC area. What most people are not aware of is his current living situation. Mr. Murphey’s home is in such poor shape that he has resorted to staying with a neighbor. The home has structural and mechanical problems. A leaking roof, no heat, deteriorated foundation, rotten roof eaves, and rotten windows are just a few items from a long list of deficiencies. The Jimmy Murphey Home Project was formed to help bring a man home that has opened his door to so many.
